An Arschloch in Schweiz
Not only are there explosives under roads deemed strategically important in Switzerland, there are some 20,000 bomb shelters dug into the Alps. There are apparently enough shelters to house all residents in case of nuclear attack. Cold war residuals- some decommissioned, some open to the public, others still seeeeeeeeeeecret.
This country is locked in and locked down.

Tripping.

Still recovering from holiday party last night, where I was finally able to do some yelling- sweet relief! Ate a baguette with salami from the train station to help with the recovery process before going to purchase a 1/2 price card, which I am so pumped to have. Half price trips all over Switzerland AND transit within the city! They are good at trains here. I am going to the transportation museum in Luzern to celebrate. My first trip since arriving! Next week I am going to Berne to see some art.

BTW: GERMAN IS DIFFICULT. I am starting to read German children’s books. ‘See Jane Run’ and all that. Also starting intensive classes where they will not refuse to teach me grammar rules.

This deportation initiative passed yesterday. There were protests in Zürich & Bern, Amnesty International condemned it as a violation of human rights, but it would seem 52% of the Swiss population thinks it’s a swell idea.

Really good call on the roasted chestnut stands everywhere in the Autumn, Zürich.

Why yes, sometimes (all times) I do want to look in the mirror and see Charles Bronson staring back out at me.

Shopping in Zürich

OK, so having a maximum number of items for a change room is understandable. Putting them away rather than holding onto them so the customer can swap items and try them on is kind of just making more work for yourself, but whatever. Heavy sighing and flopping your hands down on clothes a customer doesn’t want when they bring them out of the change room is total bullshit.

Anyone know how to say ‘are you fucking kidding me, bitch?’ in Swiss German?

Three weeks later. This is why I am bad at blarghing.

So, I have a home and furniture and almost feel like I live here. I live near Sihlcity, in a district named Enge on a street named Staffelstrasse and I have a rooftop balcony that I adore. This home-in-the-making is not a far from Uetliberg (pictured in the scenic photos). I would have hiked all the way to the top already, but the leaves and the neighbourhoods of community garden plots with little houses and the graveyard with abstract stone sculptures in place of standard headstones (teen goth & adult art enthusiast boners galore) on the way up are all too distracting.

Photographs of the new place/neighbourhood/other junk will follow at some point soon.

Things that are illegal in Switzerland (Part I)
holding hands on hiking trails and, apparently, while one person is standing on a sidewalk and the other on the street
flushing the toilet after 10pm or, if you are a dude, standing to urinate after 10pm (only applies to apartment dwellers)
lack of consideration for the dignity of plants- this includes plucking blooms off roadside flowers, but is primarily intended to place restriction on ‘terminator technology’ in GMO food
